Vol. 476 No. 6

Written Answers. - School Repairs.

Hugh Byrne

Question:

100 Mr. H. Byrne asked the Minister for Education if her attention has been drawn to the cost of repairing damage caused by vandalism at Scoil Mhuire national school, Coolcotts, County Wexford; if her attention has further been drawn to the call for a security fence as a first step towards solving the vandalism problem, that there have been many instances of vandalism and that the cost of repairs following all candalism caused would have paid for the security fence; if she will have arrangements made to erect a fence and provide security cameras; if so, when; and the proposals, if any, she has in this regard. [7772/97]

My Department's attention has been drawn to the problems caused by vandalism at Scoil Mhuire, Coolcotts. Cost estimates have been obtained in respect of resurfacing the roof and the provision of a security fence. Due to the current level of contractual commitments on the primary capital subhead it is not possible to provide grant-aid for this project at present. The project will be considered in the context of future capital allocations.
