Vol. 476 No. 7

Written Answers. - Communicable Diseases.

Ivor Callely

Question:

105 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Health if he will give details of the reported hospital acquired communicable diseases in our Irish hospitals; the hospitals which have made such reports; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [7912/97]

Limerick East): Information of the nature sought by the Deputy is not routinely collected by my Department. However, I have accepted the need for a national communicable disease surveillance unit which would be involved in monitoring communicable diseases, including hospital acquired infections. The Department of Health is currently considering the organisational and structural issues involved, in conjunction with the relevant agencies and professional interests.
