Vol. 476 No. 7

Written Answers. - Computerisation Programme.

Batt O'Keeffe

Question:

114 Mr. B. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Health if he has satisfied himself with the level of computerisation in general medical services practices in view of the cash grant and training programme. [7921/97]

Limerick East): Health boards, through their general practice units, have been facilitating the computerisation of GMS practices through the provision of financial assistance and training in the use of information technology and my Department has emphasised to the boards the importance of maintaining progress in this area. The rate of progress on the computerisation of practices to date has been variable, with 25 per cent of practices computerised in one health board area and up to 70 per cent computerisation in another board area. However, I understand that boards intend to make significant progress on information technology development in general practice during this year.
