Vol. 476 No. 7

Written Answers. - Hospital Services.

Ivor Callely

Question:

133 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Health the agreements, if any, reached between his Department and the Meath Hospital, Adelaide Hospital and National Children's Hospital on the financial contributions to be made to his Department by the three hospitals; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [8111/97]

Limerick East): The Adelaide Hospital Society, the Meath Hospital and the National Children's Hospital have recently approved proposals whereby they will fund the development or enhancement of agreed priority programmes and facilities, having regard to the needs of the communities served by the new hospital at Tallaght. The funding will, over a period of 10 years, amount to £3.5 million.

I am very pleased that this agreement is in place as it will facilitate the development of services at the hospital and gives practical expression to the earlier understanding reached regarding an appropriate use of a proportion of the value realisable from the sale of the three existing hospitals, following on the opening of the new hospital at Tallaght.
