Vol. 476 No. 7

Written Answers. - Hospital Waiting Lists.

Michael Ring

Question:

144 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Health when a person (details supplied) in County Mayo will be called to Beaumont Hospital, Dublin 9, for surgery in view of the fact that he has been waiting for a full year and is in severe pain. [8182/97]

Limerick East): Inquiries were made into this matter. I understand that Beaumont Hospital has confirmed that the person in question is on its neurological waiting list. The hospital at this moment is unable to give an exact date for admission.

The Deputy will appreciate that the scheduling of admission is a matter for the consultant concerned and is determined on the basis of medical priority. Beaumont Hospital has advised that should the person concerned feel that his condition has deteriorated he should contact his general practitioner who is in the best position to emphasis the urgency of his case directly to the consultant concerned.
