Question:

225 Mr. E. Byrne asked the Minister for Education if she will confirm that she has sanction from the Department of Finance to proceed with the building of the sports complex in Marrowbone Lane; if she has satisfied herself that sufficient funds are now committed to this project as promised; when work will commence; and if she will make a statement on the matter. A total grant of £1 million has been provided, for the building of a sports complex in Marrowbone Lane under my department's major sports facilities scheme. This provision includes an amount of £200,000 which was specifically allocated in the 1997 budget for spending on the project this year.

The necessary approvals are now in place for the commencement of planning work on the project and my Department is in discussion with Dublin Corporation in relation to the detailed arrangements for the planning and management of the complex and for the payment of the grant.

My Department will shortly be writing to the local community group in relation to these arrangements.
