Vol. 476 No. 7

Written Answers. - School Staffing.

Mary Harney

Question:

263 Miss Harney asked the Minister for Education the plans, if any, she has to appoint an administrative principal for Scoil Rois special national school, Balrothery, Tallaght, Dublin 24; whether this appointment will take place immediately ahead of the next school year in September 1997; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [8208/97]

I am not in a position at present to sanction the appointment of an administrative principal in the school referred to by the Deputy.

A post of administrative principal in a special school is sanctioned when the enrolment in the school warrants a staffing of principal plus four assistants. In the case of the school referred to by the Deputy, the current enrolment warrants a staff of principal plus three assistants.

The school has recently applied to my Department for the appointment of an additional assistant teacher from the commencement of the 1997-98 school year. My Department has requested a report from the primary inspectorate in order to consider this application.
