Vol. 476 No. 7

Written Answers. - Visiting Teachers.

Brendan Smith

Question:

301 Mr. B. Smith asked the Minister for Education the progress, if any, to date in addressing the concerns of parents of children with Down's syndrome attending primary schools in counties Cavan and Monaghan; if the appropriate funding will be provided towards the cost of employing a visiting teacher; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [8359/97]

My Department has received no request to provide a visiting teacher to children with Down's syndrome in the area in question.

As indicated in an earlier reply to the Deputy, if particulars of the children in question are forwarded to my Department, arrangements can be made to have their needs investigated.
