Under the general budget of the European Union, expenditure on operations to give effect to co-operation in the areas covered by Title VI of the Treaty on European Union is financed principally by the use of appropriations entered under Article B5-800 — (co-operation in the fields of Justice and Home Affairs. The Council of Ministers under the Irish Presidency adopted a number of joint actions setting up multi-annual programmes defining the areas of co-operation in the fields of justice and home affairs. In 1996, Ireland secured approval for funding of £152,715 in respect of a programme of seminars in accordance with the multi-annual programmes. It is not possible to state, at this stage, what funding, if any, Ireland will receive in 1997 under the multi-annual programmes in question. Approval was also secured for funding of 83,625 ECU, outside of the multi-annual programme arrangements, in respect of a seminar-citizens' hearing which took place in Dublin in November 1996.
