Vol. 476 No. 7

Written Answers. - Pension Payments.

Batt O'Keeffe

Question:

422 Mr. B. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Defence when an increase in retirement pension dating back to 1991 will be paid to a person (details supplied) in County Cork. [8315/97]

The person referred to by the Deputy was formerly employed in a civilian capacity with the Defence Forces. He retired in January 1982 and his pension is revised in line with general pay increases in the public service. In the case under reference, the pensioner concerned was last granted an increase in pension with effect from 1 August 1996. At present he is in receipt of a pension of £5,944.56 a year.

The above pension is paid on a fortnightly basis. Further increases in pension are due to be paid in this case with effect from 1 October 1996, approximately £4 a forthnight, and 1 January 1997, approximately £3 a fortnight.

Payment of the revised rate of pension, including any arrears due, has been authorised and will be made as soon as possible by the office of the Paymaster General to the person concerned.
