Cecilia Keaveney

Question:

432 Cecilia Keaveney asked the Minister for the Marine whether the Foyle Fisheries Commission area currently encompasses the Moville area; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [8232/97]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 423 and 432 together.

In accordance with section 3 (1) of the Foyle Fisheries Act, 1952 the present boundaries of the Foyle area are set out by Order made by the Commissioners for Fisheries in 1855. In effect the Foyle area corresponds to the Londonderry district created by the 1855 Order.

That portion of the Londonderry district which was situated within this State was, by virtue of the Moville Fishery District Order, 1926, created as the Moville fishery district. The boundaries of that district are from Lough Foyle to Malin Head and include Lough Foyle.

The 1855 and 1926 Orders describe in detail the boundaries of the Foyle area and Moville area respectively. I will arrange for a copy of these Orders to be forwarded to the Deputy.
