Vol. 476 No. 7

Written Answers. - Special Savings Accounts.

Noel Ahern

Question:

88 Mr. N. Ahern asked the Minister for Finance the number of people over 65 who have special savings accounts; the amount of tax payable at 15 per cent on these; and the savings or deductions suffered by the State by having the 15 per cent tax rather than the full appropriate rate. [8148/97]

I am informed by the Revenue Commissioners that the data are not recorded in such a manner as would enable the information requested by the Deputy to be provided. Such information could not be obtained without undertaking inquiries which could only be carried out at a disproportionate cost.
