Vol. 477 No. 1

Written Answers. - Higher Education Fees.

Joe Costello

Question:

170 Mr. Costello asked the Minister for Education the reason fees for the part-time course in the National Certificate in Applied Science at Tallaght Regional Technical College are £500, at a time when fees for all third-level courses are being abolished; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [8662/97]

The decision on the abolition of fees relates to fees paid by full-time undergraduate students. From the 1996-97 academic year students pursuing part-time study at third level are entitled to claim tax relief on fees paid in respect of a range of courses in approved institutions. The fee charged for part-time courses in regional technical college, Tallaght is determined by the college authorities.
