Vol. 477 No. 1

Written Answers. - Prison Visits.

Ivor Callely

Question:

174 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Justice the visiting times in operation at Shelton Abbey prison; whether prisoners are on occasions allowed outside the prison with their visitors; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [8454/97]

Visiting times at Shelton Abbey are from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Visits can be facilitated at other times by prior arrangement. Prisoners detained in open centres are not normally allowed outside the prison with their visitors, but occasionally exceptions are made, for example where an outside visit is warranted as part of a resocialisation programme.
