Vol. 477 No. 1

Written Answers. - Payment of Fines.

Brendan Kenneally

Question:

176 Mr. Kenneally asked the Minister for Justice the arrangements, if any, which have been made to have on-the-spot speeding fines paid outside of office hours; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [8456/97]

I am informed by the Garda authorities that outside the Dublin metropolitan area and Cork city, fine on the spot notices issued by the Garda may be paid at the specified Garda station during its operning hours. Payment may also be made by post.

In respect of the DMA and Cork city, fine on the spot notices may be paid between 9.15 a.m. and 4 p.m. at the Fines Ofice, O'Connell Street, Dublin, and between 9.15 a.m. and 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. at the Fines Office, Cork. Payment may also be made by post at both offices. Credit card payments are also accepted at the Dublin office. I understand that the Garda authorities have no plans to extend the hours for payment of these fines.
