Written Answers - Driving Tests.

Ned O'Keeffe

Question:

144 Mr. E. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for the Environment if he will have arrangements made to make a driving test appointment at the Cork city testing centre for a person (details supplied) in County Cork. [8927/97]

Notice of a test appointment at the Cork city test centre will issue to this person shortly.

John O'Leary

Question:

145 Mr. O'Leary asked the Minister for the Environment the number of persons on the waiting list for driving tests in County Kerry; whether he will set up more driving test centres in the county, particularly in Kenmare; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [8928/97]

On 2 April, there were 1,846 applicants for driving tests in County Kerry of whom 601 have received test appointments and 335 have indicated that they do not wish to be tested at present. Applicants seeking an early test for reasons of employment or other considerations will be tested within a period of five to eight weeks.

Existing test centres at Killarney and Tralee are considered adequate to serve the Kerry area.
