Vol. 477 No. 2

Written Answers - Schools Building Projects.

Micheál Martin

Question:

159 Mr. Martin asked the Minister for Education if she will provide palisade fencing around a school (details supplied) in County Cork as a matter of urgency in view of the fact that the school's insurance company is planning to withdraw insurance cover unless such a security fence is erected. [8721/97]

Due to the current level of contractual commitments on the primary school building programme, it is not possible to provide grant-aid towards palisade fencing at the school to which the Deputy refers at present. The matter can be considered again in the light of future capital allocations.

Mary Flaherty

Question:

160 Miss Flaherty asked the Minister for Education the current position in relation to repairs to St. Joseph's school, Ballymun, Dublin 11 and the roof to the gym hall in St. Vincent's school. [8722/97]

St. Joseph's national school has requested funding towards the cost of replacing windows, doors and downpipes, as well as new furniture, shelving and floor covering. As soon as a decision has been taken, my Department will be in touch with the school management.

There is no record of an application, in the planning and building unit of my Department, for a roof to the gym hall in St. Vincent's school. If such an application is made it will be considered in light of available resources and competing priorities.
