Vol. 477 No. 2

Written Answers - Schools Building Projects.

Mary O'Rourke

Question:

201 Mrs. O'Rourke asked the Minister for Education if she will give details on a year by year basis of the number of capital projects at primary level which were carried out with the assistance of grant aid from her Department in each of the years from 1987 to 1991; the name of the school and the location in each case; the amount of State aid in each instance; and if she will review her refusal to give information on this matter further to her reply to Parliamentary Question No. 134 of 3 December 1996; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [9166/97]

My Department does not have a centralised record of individual projects carried out in the years in question. I cannot justify assigning scarce resources to examine all primary school building files to ascertain the information. The task would be further complicated by the fact that the rate of grant aid for capital projects was standarised at 85 per cent in 1991. Prior to 1991 the rate was negotiated on each individual project. Records of projects which were grant-aided from 1994 onwards are maintained centrally by my Department's building unit.

As I have indicated previously, I would be happy to provide information on any specific project of concern to the Deputy from the 1987-91 period.
