Written Answers - Murphy Review.

Mary O'Rourke

Question:

209 Mrs. O'Rourke asked the Minister for Education when the Murphy Review of the primary school system was issued; the Minister who initiated and launched this review; the number of recommendations which were in this review; the number implemented; if she will give details for each year since the publication of the review of the number and nature of the recommendations which have been implemented; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [9174/97]

The Murphy Review, otherwise known as the Report of the Primary Education Review Body, was issued in December 1990.

The report was initiated and launched by the then Minister for Education, Deputy O'Rourke. The report contained 107 recommendations.

The majority of the recommendations in the report have been either partly or fully implemented over the intervening period. Many of the remaining recommendations are addressed in the recently published Education Bill, 1997.
