Question:

213 Mrs. O'Rourke asked the Minister for Education if she will give details of EU funding for her Department for each of the years from 1989 to 1992; and if she will give a breakdown of input of EU finance between the various sectors of education for each of these years. [9206/97]

Aid from the European Social Fund was made available to my Department during the years 1989 to 1992 to assist in the provision of specific services across the second and third levels of education. These services were provided through schools, vocational educational committees, regional technical colleges, the Dublin Institute of Technology and the universities.

In the period 1989-92 my Department received £395,737,245 in aid from the European Social Fund in respect of programmes funded from the second level and third level Votes. The annual breakdown of receipts was as follows:

The receipts listed above include arrears from previous years as well as advance payments for the years in question. Receipts in 1991 and 1992 also include advance payments in respect of certain programmes which were scheduled to be paid in 1992 and 1993 respectively.
Receipts from the European Regional Development Fund in respect of my Department's capital programme are drawn down by the Department of Finance.
