Vol. 477 No. 2

Written Answers - Citizenship Applications.

Ivor Callely

Question:

226 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Justice the top ten most used solicitors or solicitors' practices which act or process non-nationals' citizenship applications, particularly citizenship and investment applications; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [8857/97]

The information sought by the Deputy is not readily available from Departmental records. There are about 500 applications in the State per annum in recent years for naturalisation and post-nuptial citizenship. Having regard to that, it would require a disproportionate amount of time and effort to divert staff from processing such applications to compile the information sought. Quite apart from that, I am of the opinion that it would not be appropriate of me, in response to a parliamentary question, to disclose details of private arrangements between applicants for naturalisation-citizenship and their representatives in such proceedings.
