Vol. 477 No. 2

Written Answers - Citizenship Applications.

Seamus Brennan

Question:

232 Mr. S. Brennan asked the Minister for Justice if she will re-examine an application for naturalisation by a person (details supplied) in Dublin 18 who has been seeking her approval for approximately two years; if her attention has been drawn to the fact that the person is married to a naturalised citizen, has been operating a business in Ireland for over ten years, and is the brother of a naturalised citizen; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [8978/97]

The person referred to by the Deputy submitted applications for a certificate of naturalisation in 1987 and 1989. These applications were refused and the applicant's solicitors were informed in writing of these decisions in February 1988 and August 1991.

Following further correspondence in 1994 the solicitors were informed that it was open to their client to make a new application and a new application form was sent to them. My Department's records do not indicate that another application has been received to date. Each application for naturalisation is considered on its own merit and would not necessarily be considered based on other family members.
