Vol. 477 No. 2

Written Answers - Waterford Archaeological Works.

Austin Deasy

Question:

20 Mr. Deasy asked the Minister for Arts, Culture and the Gaeltacht the current position regarding archaeological works at Dungarvan Castle, Dungarvan, County Waterford; and when the castle will be open for public viewing. [8751/97]

An analysis of the archaeological findings of the previous excavations is now complete and it is now necessary to carry out a final season of archaeological excavation. It is then intended to initiate a programme of conservation works, as early as possible, with a view to opening the castle to the public on a phased basis from 1999.
