Limerick East): The establishment of private nursing homes is governed by the Health (Nursing Homes) Act, 1990, which came into operation on 1 September 1993. Financial assistance is not provided out of Department of Health funds for the setting up of a private nursing home, whether by way of grants for new buildings or grants towards the reconstruction of existing buildings.
