Vol. 477 No. 2

Written Answers - Hospitals Refurbishment.

Declan Bree

Question:

96 Mr. Bree asked the Minister for Health the requests, if any, he has received from the North-Western Health Board for funding for stage two of the upgrading and refurbishment of the paediatric unit of Sligo General Hospital; if so, the status of the application; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [9207/97]

Limerick East): The development of all health services, including paediatric services at Sligo General Hospital, is a matter for the North-Western Health board in the first instance. The upgrading and refurbishment of the paediatric unit at Sligo General Hospital has been identified by the North-Western Health Board as a priority development need. The works proposed by the board are in two stages and the first stage was undertaken and completed in 1996 with funding provided by my Department. Proposals for further works at the paediatric unit will be considered as sympathetically as possible in the context of identified health priorities and the resources available.
