The Loughrea sewerage scheme has been included in my Department's Water and Sewerage Capital Work Programme for 1997, a copy of which is available in the Oireachtas Library. This scheme is scheduled to commence construction this year at a total estimated cost of £3 million.

98 Mr. N. Treacy asked the Minister for the Environment the date on which a project (details supplied) in County Galway will commence; the amount to be allocated in this regard in 1997; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [9384/97]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 97 and 98 together.

As already announced, responsibility for the administration of group schemes has been devolved to the local authorities, subject to existing commitments on foot of approvals issued by my Department. Where schemes have already been approved, including the mid-Galway phase 4 and Caherfinisker schemes, the local authority will issue the grant allocation to the group as soon as possible. Block grant allocations notified to local authorities on 26 March 1997 take into account the commitments made.

Question:

101 Mr. N. Treacy asked the Minister for the Environment the date on which he will sanction a project (details supplied) in County Galway; the amount to be allocated for this project in 1997; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [9387/97]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 100 and 101 together. As already announced, responsibility for the administration of the group schemes programme has been devolved to the local authorities, subject to existing commitments on foot of approvals issued by my Department. Where schemes have not yet been approved, including the Peterswell and Cappataggle schemes, it will in future be a matter for the local authorities to decide on grant applications.
