Question:

126 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Justice the number of prison officers, attendants, domestics and staff on duty in Shelton Abbey Prison on 25 December 1996; the number on duty on a normal working day; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [9293/97]

There are no domestic staff employed at Shelton Abbey. A total of 17 officers were on duty over the 24 hour period from 12 midnight on 24 December to 12 midnight on 25 December 1996 as follows:

One attendant — driver — is on duty from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. Extra officers are recalled for court and hospital escorts as required.
In addition, there are three permanent teaching staff and four part-time teaching staff working at Shelton Abbey.
