Vol. 477 No. 4

Written Answers. - Day Care Centres.

Noel Davern

Question:

49 Mr. Davern asked the Minister for Health if his attention has been drawn to the overcrowding and inadequate provision of facilities at Clonmel day care centre for the elderly, Irishtown, Clonmel, County Tipperary; if he will provide funding in order for the committee to obtain a site for the provision of replacement facilities; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [9414/97]

Limerick East): As the Deputy will be aware, the provision of health services for the elderly in the Clonmel area is a matter for the South-Eastern Health Board.

I understand that officers of the board met the administrator of the Irishtown day care centre in Clonmel regarding the provision of a purpose built day care centre for the area. The question of providing financial assistance towards this development will have to be considered in the light of the availability of resources and the priority attached to the project by the South-Eastern Health Board vis-à-vis its other priority developments.

Question:

50 Mr. Davern asked the Minister for Health if his attention has been drawn to the need for the provision of a day care centre for the elderly in Cahir town, County Tipperary; if he will provide funding for such a centre; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [9415/97]

Limerick East): As the Deputy will be aware, the provision of health services for the elderly in Cahir is a matter for the South-Eastern Health Board.

I understand that officers of the board met representatives of the Chair Development Association in January last to discuss the provision of a day care centre in Cahir. The question of providing financial assistance towards this development will have to be considered in the light of the availability of resources and the priority attached to the project by the South-Eastern Health Board vis-à-vis its other priority developments.
