Vol. 477 No. 4

Written Answers. - Bovine Diseases.

Joe Walsh

Question:

115 Mr. J. Walsh asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry if his attention has been drawn to the alarming increase in outbreaks of brucellosis in west Cork cattle herds; and the steps, if any, he is taking to address this problem. [9487/97]

I am aware of the brucellosis problem in a small number of herds in west Cork. My Department is taking the necessary action to deal with the problem including monthly testing of all reactor herds in the area, blood testing of all contiguous herds every two months, monitoring of all dairy herds through monthly milk ring testing and depopulation of badly infected herds.
