Question:

124 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Defence the provisions, if any, which have been made for payment of pensions by his Department to Defence Force personnel, spouses and dependants; the provisions, if any, which have been made for such payments over the next five years; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [9404/97]

Provisions for the payment of pensions to former members of the Defence Forces and to the spouses and other dependants of deceased members is made each year in the Army pensions Estimate. Details of the 1997 Estimate are contained in the revised Estimates for Public Services. The amounts to be provided for expenditure on Army pensions in 1998 and subsequent years will be decided when the Estimates for those years are being settled.
