Vol. 477 No. 5

Written Answers. - Roads Funding.

Chris Flood

Question:

153 Mr. Flood asked the Minister for the Environment if he will provide the necessary additional funding to construct a three metre wall between Cairnwood housing estate, Tallaght, Dublin 24, and the new Cookstown to Tallaght Hospital road, in view of the requests by residents of the area; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [9623/97]

The contract for this road project was approved on 8 October 1996, subject to a maximum grant of £1.8 million from my Department under the EU co-financed scheme of specific improvement grants. A sum of £300,000 was paid to South Dublin County Council in 1996 and a grant of £1.5 million has been allocated in 1997 for the project. The funding of any additional expenditure is a matter for the council from its own resources, supplemented, if necessary, by the discretionary improvement grant.
