Vol. 477 No. 5

Written Answers. - Schools Refurbishment.

Liam Lawlor

Question:

195 Mr. Lawlor asked the Minister for Education whether she has approved the application by St. Philip's senior national school in Dublin 15 for permission to tender for classroom furniture for a second special class for pupils with learning difficulties. [9581/97]

A new grant scheme for improvement works, including the provision of furniture, has come into effect this year. Under this scheme national schools will receive a grant of £2,000, plus £9 per pupil for capital works and furniture supplies. The school in question will receive approximately £5,000 and it will be a matter for the board of management to prioritise the projects they wish to undertake within the scope of the scheme.

Accordingly, I am not in a position to provide grant-aid to this school for new furniture.
