Vol. 477 No. 5

Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

Liam Aylward

Question:

199 Mr. Aylward asked the Minister for Education if she will recommend that the size of the site being acquired by her Department in the proposed amalgamation of Slieverue Vocational School and Ferrybank Convent is at least ten acres, to facilitate the provision of adequate outdoor playing and recreational space in view of the fact that these are necessary in any modern educational development; and the current progress, if any, on the acquisition of a suitable site. [9639/97]

My Department's Post Primary Building Unit has had an extensive feasibility study carried out on a proposed site at Ferrybank.

This situation has been examined in light of all relevant building, educational and financial considerations and the site, which is in excess of ten acres, will more than adequately facilitate the amalgamation of Slieverue Vocational School and the Convent of the Sacred Heart of Mary Secondary School.

My Department is currently involved in negotiations with the vendors for the acquisition of this property.
