Vol. 477 No. 5

Written Answers. - County Enterprise Boards.

Noel Dempsey

Question:

274 Mr. Dempsey asked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment the total amounts allocated to county enterprise boards for 1995 and 1996; the amount of such moneys which are sourced from Europe; and the total costs of associated administration. [9859/97]

The county enterprise boards drew down £15,088,519 in 1995 and £16,778,825 in 1996 from the Exchequer for their enterprise support activities.

Under the Operational Programme for Local Urban and Rural Development, the county enterprise boards do not receive funding directly from the European Union. However, a sum of £17,569,402 was drawn down from the European Union by the Exchequer under the operational programme arising out of CEB co-financeable activity in 1995 and 1996. The funds drawn down are in the following table. The final tranche of EU funding in respect of 1995 (ESF) has yet to be received by my Department. As regards 1996, the final claim for both European Regional Development Fund and ESF funding is at present being finalised for submission to the Commission.

Administration costs in 1995 associated with the county enterprise initiative amounted to £4,895,088. The boards drew down £4,415,709 for administration purposes in 1996.
