Vol. 477 No. 5

Written Answers. - Fishing Vessel Licences.

Joe Walsh

Question:

345 Mr. J. Walsh asked the Minister for the Marine if he will have arrangements made to register a boat for a person (details supplied) in County Cork. [9780/97]

No application has been received from the person to whom the Deputy is referring for a sea fishing boat licence in respect of the fishing vessel in question.

In order for the vessel to be registered its owner must comply with current licensing policy which requires that capacity equivalent to the vessel entering the fleet be first removed from the sea fishing boat register.

A special scheme was introduced in 1994 to regularise the position of a substantial number of mainly small vessels which had been in the fleet but which, for various reasons, had not been formally licensed or registered. The closing date for receipt of applications under the scheme was 17 February 1995.

No application has been received under the scheme from the person to whom the Deputy is referring and there are no plans to reopen the scheme at this stage.
