Vol. 477 No. 5

Written Answers. - Stray Dogs.

Kathleen Lynch

Question:

43 Kathleen Lynch asked the Minister for the Environment the plans, if any, he has to introduce stiffer penalties for dog owners who allow their dogs to roam; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [9717/97]

The current maximum penalty for the offence of allowing a dog to stray is a fine of £500 and/or one month's imprisonment. I do not propose to increase these penalties at present.
