Vol. 477 No. 6

Written Answers. - School Facilities.

Noel Davern

Question:

84 Mr. Davern asked the Minister for Education the proposals, if any, she has to extend the provision of secretarial and caretaking facilities to primary schools in South Tipperary; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [10089/97]

Since 1992, the scheme of additional capitation grants to primary schools in respect of clerical and caretaking services has been expanded in line with the PESP-PCW undertakings. The scheme has been extended to more schools by a reduction of the qualifying enrolment with an ultimate target of all schools with 100 pupils or more.

A further stage of this phased programme will be introduced from September 1997. It is not possible at this point to state the number of schools in South Tipperary who may benefit under this phase of the programme.

I can assure the Deputy that I remain committed to the provision of additional assistance to schools for caretaking and clerical services as resources permit.
