Vol. 477 No. 6

Written Answers. - Plant Closure.

Brendan Smith

Question:

137 Mr. B. Smith asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry if he will meet a deputation, as requested by SIPTU at national level, in relation to the closure of a plant (details supplied) in County Cavan; if he will arrange the meeting for an early date; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [10075/97]

I have not, since the plant indicated by the Deputy ceased operations, received a request from SIPTU at national level to meet a delegation. The Minister of State, Mr. Deenihan, met a SIPTU delegation around the time of the closure of the plant.

As I have already indicated to the Deputy, the resumption of activities at the plant is a matter for commercial decision by the parties involved.
