Vol. 477 No. 6

Written Answers. - Light Rail Project.

Tony Gregory

Question:

139 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications if residents groups and others requiring expert representation at the forthcoming Luas public inquiry will have their costs reimbursed; and if he will give details of the procedures involved. [10041/97]

Section 8 (6) of the Transport (Dublin Light Rail) Act, 1996 provides that a person summoned to attend the public inquiry as a witness shall be allowed such expenses as would be allowed to a witness summoned to attend a court of record.

Section 8 (10) of the 1996 Act also provides that where a public inquiry has been held and where the Minister considers it reasonable that a contribution should be made towards the costs and expenses reasonably incurred by any person, other than a local authority or other body, in relation to the inquiry, the Minister may certify that the contribution shall be made and the certificate shall specify the amount of the contribution and direct its payment to such person by CIE.
