Adjournment Debate Matters.

An Leas-Cheann Comhairle

I wish to advise the House of the following matters in respect of which notice has been given under Standing Order 21 and the name of the Member in each case: (1) Deputy Batt O'Keeffe — the immediate need to set up a national surveillance monitoring unit in view of the dramatic increase of MRSA in our acute hospitals; (2) Deputy Flaherty — the application from Dublin City University for funding towards the cost of developing sports facilities on the St. Clare lands; (3) Deputy Hugh Byrne — the necessity for an extension to Bridgetown Vocational Education College, County Wexford; (4) Deputy Joe Walsh — the provision of adequate patrol vessels to provide for the safety of fishermen off the south west coast; (5) Deputy Flanagan — the need for the Government to prepare a plan for the protection and restoration of the recently discovered Viking fort of Dunrally in County Laois; (6) Deputy Frances Fitzgerald — the disturbing revelations regarding childcare centres and the need for monitoring and inspection; (7) Deputy Quill — the policy of the Minister for the Environment in respect of the installation of water meters; (8) Deputy Lenihan — the issue of temporary accommodation for the provision of a multi-denominational school in the Lucan area of Dublin; (9) Deputy Keaveney — the need for the retention of the current classroom assistant position in the class for 12 children with a moderate handicap in Scoil Iosagáin, Buncrana, County Donegal; (10) Deputy Gallagher (Laoighis-Offaly)— the threatened closure and job losses at Atlantic Mills, Tullamore, County Offaly; (11) Deputy Davern — the serious overcrowding at St. Joseph's Hospital, Clonmel, County Tipperary, and the failure of the authorities to provide extra beds and staff in the south Tipperary area; (12) Deputy Cowen — in view of the fact that today is the deadline set by the victims of the hepatitis C scandal for receipt of the proposed legislation on a statutory compensation tribunal, when the legislation will be published; (13) Deputy Flood — the policy of the Minister for Health in relation to youth homelessness in the Clondalkin area, Dublin 22, in view of the very serious plight of three children from two separate families who are homeless with no accommodation facilities, adequate family support services or counselling available to them; and (14) Deputy Ned O'Keeffe — the reason for the reduction in the allocation to universities for research equipment.

The matters raised by Deputies Davern, Cowen, Hugh Byrne and Joe Walsh have been selected for discussion.
