Vol. 477 No. 6

Written Answers. - Clonmel (Tipperary) Restoration Works.

Noel Davern

Question:

60 Mr. Davern asked the Minister for Arts, Culture and the Gaeltacht the plans, if any, he has for the much needed and urgent renovation of the Main Guard, Clonmel, County Tipperary; if so, the date on which such works will commence; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [10103/97]

Before the authentic restoration of the Main Guard could commence, it was necessary to undertake a significant level of investigative work in relation to the construction of the building. This phase of work has recently been completed. In addition, it was necessary to carry out an archaeological excavation and modern additions to the building have been removed.

Based on the results of the investigative work restoration has now commenced. It is expected that the restoration will be completed by 1999.
