Vol. 477 No. 7

Written Answers. - Security for the Elderly.

Joe Walsh

Question:

131 Mr. J. Walsh asked the Minister for Justice if she will have arrangements made to have a personal alarm system provided to a person (details supplied) in County Cork. [10278/97]

The task force on security for the elderly published its report last year which contained a series of recommendations as to how the security needs of the elderly could be most effectively addressed. The Government followed up by making additional resources available to the Minister for Social Welfare to put in place a scheme to support voluntary groups in the installation of security equipment and alarm monitoring devices in the homes of elderly people who are identified as at risk. The scheme is being administered by the Department of Social Welfare and the person should make contact with Social Welfare Regional Office, Social Welfare Services, Centre Park Road, The Marina, Cork, telephone: (021) 270055 and fax: (021) 317339.
