Vol. 477 No. 7

Written Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

Joe Walsh

Question:

86 Mr. J. Walsh asked the Minister for the Environment the water and sewerage schemes in the west Cork region for which an allocation has been made in the 1997 Estimates. [10293/97]

The water and sewerage schemes in west Cork being advanced in the current year are set out in the Water and Sewerage Capital Work Programme for 1997, a copy of which is available in the Oireachtas Library. Financial allocations are not made on an annual basis to local authorities for the provision of water and sewerage schemes; instead, payments are made on foot of certified expenditure on approved schemes.

Mary O'Rourke

Question:

87 Mrs. O'Rourke asked the Minister for the Environment if there has been an earlier Departmental approval for the Ballymascarvan group water scheme; if that approval is still tenable; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [10301/97]

No grants have been approved in respect of this scheme. As already announced, responsibility for the administration of the group schemes programme has been devolved to the local authorities, subject to existing commitments on foot of approvals issued by my Department. Where schemes have not yet been approved, including the Ballymascarvan scheme, it will in future be a matter for the local authorities to decide on grant allocations.
