Vol. 478 No. 1

Written Answers. - Satellite Dishes.

Noel Ahern

Question:

104 Mr. N. Ahern asked the Minister for the Environment the regulations, if any, in relation to the positioning of satellite dishes on houses. [10601/97]

In accordance with Class 4 of Part I of the Second Schedule to the Local Government (Planning and Development) Regulations, 1994, the erection on or within the curtilage of a dwellinghouse of a satellite television signal receiving antenna is exempted development for the purposes of the Planning Acts, subject to certain conditions. The conditions include a requirement that no such antenna shall be erected on, or forward of the front wall or on the front roof slope of a house or higher than the highest part of the roof.

Where the erection of a satellite antenna is not exempted development, for example where an antenna is to be erected on the front wall of a house, an application must be made for planning permission.
