Vol. 478 No. 1

Written Answers. - Access to Polling Stations.

Michael P. Kitt

Question:

119 Mr. M. Kitt asked the Minister for the Environment if he has satisfied himself that there will be access to polling stations for the disabled in the next General Election; if alternative arrangements will be put in place; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [10778/97]

Under the Electoral (Amendment) Act, 1996, the returning officer is required, where practicable, to provide polling stations which are accessible to wheelchair users. This requirement has been brought to the attention of each returning officer to my Department.
