Vol. 478 No. 1

Written Answers. - Teacher Appointments.

Eamon Walsh

Question:

176 Mr. E. Walsh asked the Minister for Education if she will grant a concessionary teaching post to St. Joseph's school (details supplied) in Clondalkin, Dublin 22, in view of the detailed documentation supplied to her Department on 26 March 1997 and receipt of this document confirmed as 1 April 1997; if she will give this request her urgent attention; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [10687/97]

The documentation to which the Deputy refers is currently being considered by my Department.

The details contained in the documentation identify a range of special needs which may require a variety of responses.

My capacity to allocate additional teaching posts to meet such needs in any given year is determined by resource availability in that year and the level of competing demand from other special needs areas. The position regarding such allocations for the 1997-98 school year is currently being considered.

The needs of the school in question will be taken into account in the context of any allocation of additional teaching posts which may be undertaken.
