Vol. 478 No. 1

Written Answers. - Rural World Premium.

Mary Coughlan

Question:

253 Miss Coughlan asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry whether the rural world premium will be removed; if his Department will provide a top-up of £10 in order to compensate for the reduction of the rural world premium; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [10721/97]

Under the terms of Council Regulation 3493/90 sheep farmers are eligible for payment of the rural world premium if at least 50 per cent of the holding is located in a disadvantaged area and if that area is used for sheep production. There is, at present, no proposal to remove or reduce this premium. In view of this, the issue of compensation does not arise.
