Question:

49 Cecilia Keaveney asked the Minister for Finance the current position in relation to the bilateral talks on Article 18 of the Britain-Ireland Dual Taxation Agreement of 1976; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [10733/97]

The classes of employees covered by Article 18 (Governmental Functions) of the Ireland-UK Double Taxation Convention are currently being reviewed by the tax authorities of both countries. It is expected that agreement will be reached shortly. The Deputy will appreciate any modifications to the existing convention must be agreed by both countries.
