Alan Shatter

Question:

50 Mr. Shatter asked the Minister for Health the number of children born outside marriage and the number of children born within marriage in each of the past ten years; and the number of children in respect of whom the names of both parents have been registered in the Registry of Births in relation to the total number of children born outside marriage. [10410/97]

Limerick East): The Central Statistics Office, which compiles information in relation to vital events, has provided the information requested by the Deputy for the period 1986-95 as per the following table. I understand 1995 is the latest year for which relevant annual figures are available.

Data is not collected on an aggregated basis in relation to the number of births of children born outside marriage for which paternity details have been registered.
