Vol. 478 No. 1

Written Answers. - Eastern Health Board Property.

Liz O'Donnell

Question:

68 Ms O'Donnell asked the Minister for Health his views on whether the Eastern Health Board should proceed without the outcome of investigations by his Department, the Ombudsman and the Comptroller and Auditor General into the behaviour of the Eastern Health Board in relation to the purchase of a house in Dublin 14 (details supplied); and if he will make a statement on the matter. [10488/97]

The general background to this issue is set out in my reply to the Deputy's previous question and I would refer her to the Dáil Official Report for 11 February 1997, columns 1161-1162.

Arrangements for the purchase of this property were completed earlier this year and while my Department has been in contact with the Eastern Health Board in the matter I have not undertaken any investigation into this purchase, nor would this be appropriate.

The Deputy will appreciate that the Eastern Health Board is separately answerable to both the Comptroller and Auditor General and the Ombudsman and I do not think it appropriate for me to comment on any reference which might have been made to either of these offices.
